At home, she'll generally lie on the couch, legs up in the air and watch whatever is going on outside the window. Outside, she loves to say hello to every single dog we come across , play a mediocre game of fetch and smell everything. I wouldn't say she's very skilled at sniffing but she does enjoy the act of smelling and appreciates different scents. She'll often lift her nose and simply smell the air!
We take her hiking and camping, she loves hiking. Camping overnight she could do without as it isn't quite as comfortable as her bed at home and she certainly appreciates somewhere dry and cushioned to sit her bum down. In fact, she's not a fan of the rain and will use anything to dry her face off at the earliest opportunity. The pants you're wearing and the couch are tried and true favourites, but in moments of desperation she has attempted to use wet grass, ferns and loose soil, among other things, without much success.
Not surprisingly, she didn't know how to swim when we brought her home but now is an avid swimmer and will always jump into the water. In fact, she is such a strong and confident swimmer that she recently swam across a sizeable lake to reach one of her humans to the horror of her other human who was watching horrified on the shore but knew there was know way to catch up to Calypso as she's also quite fast! (Side note: She has massive, webbed paws and we're often asked if she's still "quite young" because people assume she needs to grow into her feet! People also often assume she's a boy.)
Calypso has a little bit of separation anxiety and in a new place if one or both of her humans disappear may start to whine and dance on her toes a little bit. She will also simply stare out at the place she last saw her human and wait patiently for their return. As she doesn't want you to leave, her recall is excellent. The prospect of a treat however will greatly improve her ability to listen to commands such as sit, stay, shake a paw, and play dead (admittedly, her tail continues to wag when she plays "dead".) She happily and gently has also taken treats from children as young as two years old and takes interested sniffs at baby faces. As she doesn't live with any small humans however, she'd much rather play tug-of-war with another dog! '>
